Saturday 27 August 2016 saws the skies clear to a warm winters day – perfect for a bike ride. David Allworth had prepared an excellent leaflet for 20+ participants

Annette & John participate in the Gulgong to Mudgee ride.

which included members and visitors, for the ride today. The leaflet included a detailed map and the logistics of the proposed rail corridor for cycling and walking and leisure purposes. Meeting point was in the backyard of Annette & Peter’s place to register & sign in for the ride as Coronation Park, Gulgong  was hosting the markets.

Today’s ride was organised by Mudgee Bushwalking and Bike Riders Club Inc. and with the support from Mudgee Safe Cycling to also highlight the potential of the Gulgong to Kandos Bike Trail beside the disused rail on the western outskirts of Mudgee. A  Trail of this nature would not only provide an economic boost through tourism to each location from Gulgong to Kandos but also offer a safe cycling and walking environment option to the citizens of the area.

Participants viewed various area’s of disused rail where a rail corridor could be well supported. Today’s ride took the Canandian Lead Road (which is a rural dirt road), so the MTB’s came out in force, and approximate distance for today’s ride was 35klm.  Of course the necessary refuelling was a must for each cyclist so participants re-grouped in an establishment in Lewis Street.
Looking forward to the next “Invitation to Ride” near Rylstone in November.
