Date: Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August 2017

Where to: The Pilliga  near Coonabarabran – one of the iconic landscapes of the Australian inland.

ITINERARY

Saturday 19th August

Arrive Coonabarabran and check in to the John Oxley Caravan Park.  Early dinner.    7.00pm   one and a half hour night viewing tour at the Warrumbungle Observatory.  See information below.

Sunday 20th August

9.15am Meet at the Coonabarabran  Tourist Information Centre.  BYO morning tea.  Drive to the Sandstone Caves and do the 2km medium grade walk.  Then drive (about 30ks unsealed) to the Sculptures in the Scrub at Dandry Gorge and do the 3km medium grade walk.  Picnic lunch in the Gorge.  Drive (about 35ks unsealed) to the Salt Caves and the Lookout Tower which has the most amazing view of the landscape.

For those not wanting to stay overnight, meet at the Coonabarabran Tourist Information Centre at 9.15am on Sunday morning.

Warrumbungle Observatory is a private observatory located in the foothills of the Warrumbungle Mountains 9km from Coonabarabran.  Cost is adult $24.00, Senior $22.00, Child (u 18) $12.00

Photos can be taken through the 20″ telescope with Nikon or Canon SLR cameras for one hour after the show at an additional cost.
