While 13 members headed off from the Lovejoy Street carpark for an early morning MTB ride of approx. 26klms, past the wetlands and along Tinja Lane towards Mt Pleasant & return via the newspaper shop & closest coffee house to return for all to catch up over a shared morning tea. Robertson Park picnic table suited members. For those who have never ventured into the Mudgee Putta Bucca wetlands you must put this on your list for an early morning stroll. The peace and quiet within the reach of the Mudgee township. As I ventured to the entrance of the wetlands I was met by a magpie and its large young chick, they appeared to be the gatekeepers. So on an early morning walk here you will be greeted with the sounds of a variety of birdlife and with a comfortable haven to sit and watch the birds, (helpful to have binoculars), thankfully I did and was able to enjoy watching some large waterbirds to the very small wrens. Onsite on the ‘Quarry Trail’ you will find an old relic an abandoned truck used back in those early days. A yellow flower here and there made for some great photos. The information signage onsite depicts the birdlife of the Central West spanning from the waterways to the woodlands left a challenge for this walker to try and figure out all the names of the birds sighted today. Alas it was time for morning tea back in Robertson Park with the MTB riders.
TIP: Early morning is best & don’t forget the binoculars.
