Barneys Reef Road – Walk or Ride

Barneys Reef Road – Walk or Ride

Date: Sunday 15 November 2020 we (Elly & Joby) would like to invite all the members (rider’s & walkers) for a combined activity – noting it’s the last activity before our End of Year Function. Ride & Walk portion of the Central West Cycle Trail.   Area: (Gulgong to Birriwa), section Barneys Reef Road along Slap Dash Creek. Participants: Depart Mudgee 8:30am from Lovejoy Street carpark Or Meet: 9:15am at Intersection of Barneys Reef Road & Merotherie Road (15km-after leaving Gulgong PO) turn left- marked as a “No through road”.

Riders commence ride: Intersection of  Barneys Reef Road & Merotherie Road (Note: it’s a no vehicle access road-after 5km), unsealed ‘nature trail’. Ride 5km to the area known as “the bog” *** (walkers may join you here and provide riders with morning tea), sneak around the boggy area and continue on until you meet the Castlereagh Hwy – approx. 6 km & turn around & return if you haven’t already done so.

“You will be riding along Slap Dash Creek  which is the upper section of Barneys Reef Road, which is no longer trafficable, -after 5km, is a lovely unsealed trail, following the Slap Dash Creek. When you reach the end of the nature tail and a sealed road called Bus Route South you can turn left and cycle the short distance to the village of Birriwa” if you like (Extract taken from the CWC Trail notes). Riding distance: optional for today.

Walkers have a few options distance etc, but morning tea point will be ***  & I imagine a bit of exploring the slap dash creek is in order. Easy walk along the trail.  A great way to combine an activity for the year!
