Lockley’s Pylon – 2023 (Report)

Walk Report by; Colleen Lovell. LOCKLEY’S PYLON WALK 12 Feb 2023 “Twenty two enthusiastic members met at 7.30am to carpool all eager for the first outing of the year. A pit-stop at Capertee brought an unexpected surprise, we were greeted with bird calls in the loo, publicising the critical state of the Regent Honeyeater. (great signage -mural). Then off to Leura where we met at the information area for a short briefing. The walk started up a hill through dense scrub with a well-worn track and wooden steps so the climb was not too difficult, if a tad narrow and steep. Most of the walk was on the top of the ridges in heath areas with low ground cover, not a lot of wildflowers out but I did manage to find a few. The day was beautiful, if slightly too hot to be out in the open, a cool breeze kept the body refreshed. This is a popular track there were a lot of other walkers to chat to on our walk some going out like us others on the return. We had lunch at the top, to enjoy the amazing views up two valleys. Brian pointed out all the other walks and points of interest, such as Govetts Leap, Blue Gum Forest, Pulpit Rock most of which he had done (if my brain had retained them I could tell you what the others were.) There were three waterfalls on the other side of the valley, and small moving dots of walkers at various points around. Dragonflies, butterflies and March flies all enjoyed our company over lunch. (We didn’t enjoy the March flies much). After lunch we headed back via another lookout. A great walk with amazing views of a part of the mountains I had not seen. 7.5kilometres return a big thanks to Feroz for his leadership”.
