Windamere Dam & Cudgegong Cemetery.

Walk: Windamere Area (Cudgegong).

Sunday 18 April 2021, saw members and visited totalling 27 participating. The weather started out with a receding fog turning into a warm 23 degrees. Unable to determine the water temperature as their were no takers (today)! After an 8:30am briefing from Joby at meeting point in Robertson Park and (while Elly completed the necessary registration paperwork), before heading off to our first stop to liaise with Mark Butler. We drove from “Rest Area-along the Castlereagh Hwy” to visit the Cudgegong Cemetery.  Great views of the dam along the way. Headstones were on show with surnames and age at time of burial indicating the tough life of the past; Perram, Jennings, Rayner, Sheppard, Pitt, just to name a few – beautiful area to be interred.

A quick shared morning tea and a few notes discussed from the book, “Cudgegong Under Windamere”, by Sue Harding. (Thank you Deirdre for a loan of the book)!.

The next stop: 2 vehicles led the way to the area designated for lunch, while members walked those few kms – lunch saw members wishing they had time to fish before Joby pointed (in an upward and on motion), to continue on the track for those more agile participants -yes up to approx. 600m to get that special view of the water glistening back at them.

Leaders(s) Joby & Elly happy with the member numbers for the day, even requiring assistance from Eunice Marskell to indicate on registration sheet of members return. Some great pictures have been posted on facebook and thank you to Ross, Victoria and Kim & Leo. Great to see some new members Deirdre, Gudi and Lyn join us for the day.

We also had two of the club’s Life Member’s Eunice Marskell and Andrea Sauerbier join us – Support vehicle came in very handy. Many thanks to Mark Butler for arranging and allowing access for the members, Colin Herbert for the loan of the Hilux (very much appreciated)!  Great to see those “Green shirts” appearing. Visually seen from over 1km away. Report by President: Johanna (Joby) Mitchell.
