Barigan Fire Trail (west) -Totnes (Report)

Date: Sunday 20 August 2023 – Finally we were able to visit this area.

Walk completed today Sunday 20 August 2023 on the Barigan Fire Trail (west) – Totnes area. The weather turned a corner after some drizzly rain and a cold front to keep you all in indoors! However many events were planned for the Mudgee area today and thankfully everything went ahead as planned. Well done to all that attended and hosted the Mudgee Running Festival; several members participated and some were on hand to assist/spectate.

Back to the walk for today: Members got to finally tick the Barigan Fire Trail off their list (for now), noting this walk had to be postponed earlier this year due to torrential rain. Members have requested we sneak back when the orchids are out in flower! -so watch this space. A great fire trail to meander through with the wildlife out and about and the abundance of natives in flower so early in the season. As you go through the slideshow above you will notice an unusual rock formation: the locals call it ‘Camel Rock’ and rightly so however I have a tea-pot in mind. A section of the trail took us to the view area of the Totnes Valley below where we did wave to our dear friends Joe & Sheila Doyle. Our visitor of today was Tania (Romey’s daughter) from the Totnes Valley, we look forward to her company again soon. As promised the lunch time spot was reserved for the club of which a large fallen tree was ‘neatly’ laying on the ground for us to sit and relax/re-set, while the artist tackled the watercolours. Grade: Medium – suited all for today.

Attendance: 12 participated. Distance walked: 9.2km for all walkers. Thank you to today’s Leader(s) Ivy & Neville Higgs. Photo(s): Karen Riley, Trish Kempton, Jenny Macnaughton, Joby Mitchell. Posted to website/FB by JM.
