Walk: Mt Bocoble (Mudgee area) Report.

Date: Sunday 23 April 2023 (#6 for 2023) Location: Mt Bocoble – Mudgee area. Leader(s): Graham Pound and Karen Riley.

Report by: Victoria McAdam – “Thank you to Graham Pound and Karen Riley For a fabulous day. One of the most peaceful walks I can remember, started with a little snack and chat at Grahams property. A short walk up the road and on to Bocoble mountain. I think everyone agreed the top of the hill was a larger area than expected… and a tad cooler than in town. On the way there were some challenges!! How best to ‘scale’ the gate!!I think the winners were Louise and Gretha…Style and dignity..Photographic evidence is here for you all to see.. Some delightful red breasted birds and a big fat black snake disappearing down a hole. There were also the usual suspects in kangaroos and goats. The view of Windamere was outstanding. Rolling clouds and rain on the horizon. ‘Photo bombing’ did occur, laughter was heard And a challenge was set… a challenge of ‘at what cost’ to swim in the sloppy murky depths of a ‘pond’ A great day. Thank you for everyone who came along and had a good time”.

These were the arrangement: Note: Graham had sought permission to access the Mt bocolble prior to walk. Meet at Lovejoy Street at 8.00 am Start and finish the walk at 976 Bocoble Rd, Bocoble NSW 2850. (private property). Walk Description/distance: The walk is approx. 9km mainly on dirt road. It’s fairly steep in places as you rise approximately 200 mtrs in elevation over 4.5km to the top. Mt Bocoble is 1000mtrs in elevation. Greta views to the dam and catchment area and on a good day you can see Kandos Cement works. We will have plenty of time to explore on top. And can do a small side trip on an old track on the way up if you like. Safety: Steep, gravel ground can be slippery especially on the way down. Suggest bringing walking poles for stability. Need to climb over one gate. Posted for website & facebook by Joby.
